France playmaker Zinedine Zidane won the prestigious Golden Ball Award of the FIFA World Cup 2006 despite his craziness of being headbutting Italian defender Marco Materazzi in the final match.

The France captain got 2,012 points while Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro received 1,977 points and Andrea Pirlo of the world champions bagged 715 points.

Under Zidane’s leadership, France entered into the finals of the FIFA world cup where it lost to Italy in the penalty shootout.

Germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn bagged this award in the last world cup, while Brazilian striker Ronaldo got it in 1998.

Undeniably, the prestigious award will glorify 36-year-old Zinedine Zidane whose glorious career ended with a discouraging note at Berlin’s Olympic stadium.
