Finally, the great Zinedine Zidane spoke up his mind to the people. He apologized for the head-butting Italian defender Marco Materazzi in the World Cup final at Berlin, Germany. However, he asserted that he did not regret what he did that fateful night.
Speaking to Canal Plus television, Zidane said he head butted Materazzi after being insulted by the Italian defender with rude comments.
Zidane, who was hailed as the best player of FIFA World Cup 2006 did not speak what Materazzi had said to him in the final match. The retired soccer star only indicated that he took the hard step just to defend his sister and mother.
Zidane explained that Materazzi repeatedly made hard comments on his mother and sister. For which, he was provoked and head butted.
The soccer legend has also criticized FIFA rules for sanctioning the players who react but not those who provoke the reactions.
Zidane has been ridiculed throughout his football career due to his family legacy. He was born and brought up in Marseille. His parents are Algerian immigrants.
