Fame and recognition derives us all - Even the ones who have made it thus far strive even further barring all restrictions. He is approaching 40 and is one name that once was at the pinnacle, in the rarest of cases would anyone comprehend that age to be associated with football but Romario is the name defying the odds.
Legendary striker Romario, a great Brazilian footballer, has many feats to his credit the FIFA player of the Year award being one amidst the rest. Romario had began his footballing career in the streets of Rio and Resende, from where this South American veteran transferred to Spain to play for FC Barcelona and then went on to become one prominent name in Soccer.
Romario has begun training for Vasco da Gama, a club from where he begun his career as an amateur and now stands at the brink of yet another milestone, he underwent medical tests with the club where he has urged to play again in the quest to reach 1,000 goals a mark that only all time great Pele has achieved.
When thought of Romario making it into the squad at Vasco, a thing that one is instigated to believe is that he is no longer as quick off the blocks and as agile as he once was but is bound to receive some favoritism, for his intended monetary respite to the club when it faced bankruptcy few years ago.
He may find no problem with the team management, however, Romario will face one hurdle in the process - he is still to receive acquiescence to play for the club from the World’s governing body FIFA, which restricts a professional from playing in more than two clubs in a year (he has played for teams in Miami and Adelaide, Australia already), which has kept things hanging in the air for Romario and Vasco de Gama.
