It has indeed been a persuasive response to manager, Rafael Benitez for leaving Torres of the starting XI of the last two Premiership matches. Liverpool’s current record signing, Torres capped a fine display with a hat-trick as the team knocked Reading out of the Carling Cup.

Knowing the magnitude of the game the domestic rivals made a few changes to their side that fabricated the game to a real thriller. But the pick of the day was Torres who produced an all-round display to sublime his finishing skills.

Taking a lead in the 22nd minute Yossi Benayoun, fired up for Liverpool but Bobby Convey had an answer to it as he squared five minutes later. It took few minutes after the break for Torres to put Liverpool back in control as Leto’s pass sent the Spaniard to kick the ball pass the nets.

Continuing to be a menace and finishing a memorable night, Torres made the game safe with superb finishes in the 70th and 86th minutes.

Though there were positive signs for Liverpool, as Leto appeared neat in the field as did Aurelio, coming back in the team from a long-term injury, it was Torres leading all the way, to seize his first ever hat-trick for Liverpool and landing them to a 4-2 win.
