Thanks to their rollercoaster 3-2 win against Sevilla, Real Madrid has moved to the second slot in La Liga and is now breathing down the neck of leader’s Barcelona.
Real’s Dutch recruit Ruud Van Nistelrooy struck a brace and Robinho too chipped in with a goal in the match against Sevilla. The losers scored through Enzo Maresca and
Chevanton but that was just not enough in the end.
With 63 points in its kitty, Real is now just two points behind Barcelona.
Sevilla initially looked the best side before Real regrouped and started taking the reins in its hand. David Beckham, who was to play the game by overturning his yellow card in the previous match, unleashed a trademark corner which found Mahamadou Diarra but the latter’s header was off the target.
Sevilla still managed to draw the first blood through Enzo Maresca’s brilliant strike before Nistelrooy and Robinho pumped in three goals to take the match away. Chevanton did manage to score one with a spectacular free-kick but that was not enough.
Robinho was given the marching orders after earning his second yellow card but Sevilla lost the advantage when Ocio too was shown the red card.
Sevilla slipped to the third position after this defeat.
