A splendid shot by Nani fashioned first win of the season for Manchester United at Soccer’s Premiership League.
The 20 year old, Portuguese forward also scored his maiden goal for United since his 8.0 million pounds transfer from Sporting Lisbon. Nani’s decisive goal came at the 68th minute with an unstoppable 30-yard shot, that took the faintest deflection off teammate, Carlos Tevez and finally landed inside the goal post.
With a poor show of two draws and a defeat in the previous three league matches, the latest win has lofted United up from a second bottom in the table, to the 10th place. The defeat capped a traumatic week for Spurs who hope reaching the Champions League this season, thereby slipping to 17th spot. Club Chelsea still tops the league with 10 points.
Delighted United manager Alex Ferguson remarked:
It was a narrow win, touch and go, nothing between the sides ... I knew it was going to be a war of attrition in the second half. They dug in, caused us a bit of bother but the goal was a wonder hit, although I think Tevez’s touch sealed it.
Though, the Spurs tested United on numerous occasions but unfortunately could not convert it to a goal.
In an another encounter Newcastle United ended a 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough.
