Manchester United finally broke the duck and tasted win as their Portuguese winger Nani scored the all-important goal in their 1-0 win against Tottenham in the Premier League.
The win would be a huge relief for the side and its manager Sir Alex Ferguson, especially after the defending champions had opened their account with two draws and a defeat against rivals Manchester City.
With this win, Man U jumped to 10th position with five points in kitty. Chelsea is the table-topper with 10 points, followed by Manchester City at nine.
After a barren first half, Nani brought cheers to the Man U camp in the 68th minute when he received a ball well outside the penalty box and unleashed a long-ranged that probably ricocheted off teammate Carlos Tevez before crashing into the net.
Man U almost made it 2-0 with Nani masterminding a move that saw Robbie Keane’s 20-yard effort hitting the top of the bar.
Tottenham almost equalized in the second half when striker Dimitar Berbatov pushed the ball through Man U custodian Edwin van der Sar’s leg before defender Rio Ferdinand cleared it just when it was entering the goal.
