Just hours after averting the FA quarterfinal snare, the fascinating Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has agreed to a new five-year deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge through 2012.
Playing in the second season for the club, Essien has been a utility player for Chelsea - who have used him in different positions (in the preferred midfield and in defense in Terry’s absence) over the season.
