What made Zinedine Zidane to head butt Italian defender Marco Materazzi? The France playmaker knew that it would bring a disgracing note to his glittering career.
If media reports have to be believed, Materazzi intentionally provoked Zidane to take a hard step, which would lend him in deep trouble. That is what happened at Olympia Stadium in Berlin on Sunday night. It is now an infamous but memorable event in the FIFA history.
According to a report on Brazilian television channel Globo, Materazzi made a serious comment on Zidane in the ground. He called him a dirty terrorist and his sister a prostitute just few minutes before the frightful incident. Zinedine Zidane could control his temper towards the Italian defender. He head butted Materazzi in the second half of extra-time. The rest is history.
Materazzi denied of provoking Zidane, as reported in Ansa the Italian news agency. The agency says that Materazzi was did not tell anything to the France captain. Even, he does not know what exactly meaning of the word terrorist.
However, the incident has brought dishonor to great Zinedine Zidane.
