I often ponder are the likes of Steven Gerrard at Liverpool a sheer waste of talent - the charismatic midfielder is by far the best in the World football today but unfortunately the lad’s never got his bit.

But hang on maybe Liverpool’s new ownership has a better thought - George Gillett and Tom Hicks, the American millionaires have assured boss Rafael Benitez a sum of £40 million as transfer fund for the summer.
The duo wishes Liverpool to challenge Chelsea and Manchester United at the top of the Premiership to win the title first time since 1990 - even if in the process they have to shed hard bucks for accruing world class players to match the League rivals.
The strategy in the past from Benitez has been one of increasing numbers at Liverpool but this approach could be one of signing quality players. Football greats will be the targets now and already Samuel Eto’o and David Villa are been linked with a move to Liverpool.
Under the new UEFA rule, the players can buy out the final two years of a contract, which is an added scare for the lesser teams with better players to hold on to them. This move at Liverpool could probably have been one reason to hold Gerrard and Alonso who are expected to cross the £100,000 a week barrier, next season.
The move no doubt will be apt enough to lift the presently third ranked Liverpool next season - but the question remains will £40 million be enough to lure and retain quality players?
