Wigan forward Emile Heskey, who was last seen donning England jersey three years back, would make a surprise appearance to partner Michael Owen up front in the important Euro 2008 qualifier against Israel, according to BBC Sport.
With star striker Owen Rooney nursing a foot injury, England coach Steve McClaren has limited options and that opens the national team’s door for Heskey.
It’s, however, not all doom and gloom and McClaren heaves a sigh of relief after both Steven Gerrard and goalkeeper Paul Robinson were declared fit of the Wembly showdown.
McLaren welcomed Gerrard’s availability and said It will be a big boost for everyone, but most of all it will be a boost for Stevie Gerrard because he wants to play in this game.
Despite his optimism, the England dressing room more and more resembles a hospital ward. Injuries continue to plague the hosts and McLaren had kept Gareth Barry on the standby in case midfielder Owen Hargreaves too sits out with a thigh injury.
The side is already sans Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, who is nursing a thigh injury, and former captain David Beckham, whose knee problem ruled him out of the tie.
