Bayern Munich’s gifted midfielder Owen Hargreaves is all set to seal his transfer to Manchester United on Tuesday, sources reported yesterday.

Hargreaves has agreed to the terms of his five-year contract at United following a successful fitness test last week. His transaction will set Sir Alex’s kitty back by as much as 17 million pounds. However, Ferguson will be more than happy to have spent the money where he wanted it. He had been chasing Hargreaves ever since the end of last year’s World Cup.

Lengthy negotiations with the German club have finally resulted in Sir Alex getting his man. Hargreaves, for his part, had insisted from the start that he would be delighted with a move to the English club.

He has already signaled that he is ready to help Manchester United in their defense of Premiership title next season. Hargreaves said:

I have been lucky to play in big games and win some wonderful titles. I have won everything a player can in Germany - titles, the Champions League and even the World Club Championship. It is now about experiencing that somewhere else and I can’t wait to start over again. The prospect of adding a Premiership winner’s medal to my collection is incredibly exciting.

Apart from his desire to play with United, Bayern’s measly performance in Bundesliga this season, might have led to his hastened departure from the club. His arrival is unlikely to be the only big-name signing for United this season. Premiership titleholders are reportedly chasing Barca’s Samuel Eto’o and Sporting Lisbon’s Nani.

As far as United fans are concerned, a chance to see one of England’s top performers, of the disappointing World Cup campaign last year, would be a mouth watering-prospect.

I would only say keep them coming, Sir Alex!
