Patrick Vieira and Zinedine Zidane scored two goals in the last 10 minutes to end Spain’s World Cup run in the quarterfinals. Now the former champions will set their quarterfinals battle against the defending champions.
It is interesting to note the fact that veteran Zinedine Zidane got back his form after the poor performance in the first round matches. It was Zinedine Zindane, who at once restrained the Brazilians to take the crown by his two wonderful goals in the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He led France 3-0 victory over the Brazil.
In contrast to the mass speculation, France fought their pre-quarterfinal battle bravely against the powerful Spain, the team performed extremely well in the first round matches.
David Villa scored the first goal in the 28 minute to give Spain 1-0 lead. However, the Spaniards could not keep the momentum going on. Frank Ribery leveled the game in the 41st minute. Patrick Vieira gave the second goal in 83rd minute. Zidane scored his first goal in the tournament in the 90th minute.
