There was a controversial sting to Tottenham’s Premiership game against West Ham, Spurs and England striker Jermain Defoe bit the arm of Javier Mascherano (West Ham) when he was fouled by the midfielder... Was it a ‘comical nibble’ as described by Martin Jol manager Tottenham, or was it a well thought out act, it is difficult to say... The Football Association has refused to take any action against the striker because Steve Bennett referee on field has already penalized him for his scornful act...he had booked both the players for their fouls.
The players have a responsibility to conduct themselves with dignity, the youth looks up to these professionals as role models... those guilty of such acts should be severely reprimanded... You guys may remember the exceptional decision taken by the FA earlier in the season when it punished Man City defender Ben Thatcher who was guilty of smashing his forearm into Portsmouth playmaker Pedro Mendes which saw the latter in hospital...Though it was a more serious offence than what Defoe committed but if such unacceptable acts have to be stopped to make the beautiful game of football more player friendly then The Football Association will have to take serious actions against players conduct both on and of field.
