It’s official England and Chelsea mid fielder Frank Lampard will not play against Estonia in today’s Euro 2008 qualifier. England manager Steve McClaren has said that Aston Villa player Gareth Barry would continue in the midfield while Chelsea captain John Terry is also been left out, as he has not recovered from the injury. Sol Campbell will take the place of Terry in the match against Estonia.
I am shocked with this latest development because in my opinion Frank Lampard is the best player in the world at the moment. Not only he is creative in the mid field but also has ability to score loads of goal. Same cannot be said about the Gareth Barry, who is no doubt hard working mid fielder but certainly not in the league of Frank Lampard.
Inclusion of Campbell is not that bad because he is a world-class defender and England need to defend well against Estonia. Any mistake against Estonia can cost England the place in Euro. Campbell has not played for England since the 2006 World Cup but this will not be an issue for experienced Portsmouth defender.
