Stefan Wessels surfaces to become the first German player ever to sign the English football club, Everton. Being one of the top five most successful English clubs in terms of major honours, club Everton signs German goalkeeper on free transfer, for a stipulated one-year contract. It has been club’s fourth summer signing so far. The German will conceivably pose competition for Tim Howard, John Ruddy and Iain Turner, the regular goalkeepers for Everton. Wessels said, ‘I am excited to be here in England. It is the first time I have played for a club outside of Germany but the English Premier League is a very exciting league and I am looking forward to my time here at Everton.” In the international arena, there is hardly any delight for the keeper although featuring for Germany at various levels, is yet to break into the senior squad and has represented the country at under-21 level. Beginning a career at Bayern Munich, where he broke into the first team squad during the 1999/00 season, deputising for Germany keeper Oliver Kahn. Made a debut for the Bavarian giants against Rangers in the Champions League in 1999, involving in their 2001 Champions League truimph.
