Contrary to claims by Dimitar Berbatov’s agent, Manchester United has clarified that it’s not interested in the Tottenham Hotspur striker.
Since joining the Spur from Bayer Leverkusen, Berbatov had a sparkling first season at the club, netting 22 goals. So when his agent claimed that Man U had approached the Spurs for the Bulgarian, few people were surprised. After all, Man U has been forced to play sans their star striker Wayne Rooney who sustained a foot injury.
Man U chief executive David Gill, however, put to rest all speculations and issued a statement to deny such move. He said
We have categorically not made a bid for Dimitar Berbatov.
Earlier, Berbatov’s agent Emil Dantchev told a radio station about a meeting with Tottenham top brass.
Dantchev said
They informed us that there’s a query from Manchester United about the possibility of Berbatov joining them.
There are also reports in the media that Berbatov’s relation with Spur boss Martin Jol has soured even though the player himself pooh-poohed such claims.
