David Beckham is all set for a dual role, with both the club and country as well. The English midfilder presently captaining soccer’s major league, Los Angeles Galaxy has been picked for an international friendly tag against Germany.
The highest paid soccer player in the world makes his 97th appearance for the national team. Other player’s include defender Sol Campbell, goalkeeper David James while players like John Terry, Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen make their way into the squad even though the players are recovering through prior injuries. The latest team selection might probably provide England’s Coach Steve McClaren with a final opportunity to evaluate players in an international arena, before qualifying for next year’s European Championship.
Last month, Beckham signed a five-year contract with Galaxy and got on to a slow start in the MLS owing to troubles of the left ankle injury. The 32-year-old has finally kicked off scoring his first goal for the new club in the SuperLiga semi-final against DC United on Wednesday.
With a hectic schedule lying underway, Beckham will today play club Galaxy’s match with the New York Red Bulls and tomorrow travel to England to play against Germany on Wednesday. He will then fly back the following day for a game against Los Angeles rivals the Chivas USA.
Beckham said:
I don’t think it would affect my performance for my country nor the Galaxy. I’ve handled the travelling pretty well so far. It’s something that I’ve not being used to in my career. Playing in Europe, we’ve only had to travel an hour, two hours to play.
