
Former England captain David Beckham who had transferred from Manchester united to Real Madrid in Spain has signed a two-year extension to his contract at Real Madrid, the new deal with the Spanish power house will keep the 31 year-old midfielder, at the Santiago Bernabeu until June 2009.
Since Beckham has transferred to this star-studded team in Spain, the club has grown financially. When Beckham played for Manchester United in England, Manchester was the richest football club but since he has transferred to Real Madrid the club has earned so much revenue from its off field activities that today its the richest football club.
David Beckham is more know for his hairstyles and as a celebrity than he is for his football abilities. When asked whether it was for his sporting ability or for merchandising and sponsorship that the contract was extended, Real Madrid President Calderon retorted that of course it was for sporting reasons. Marketing issues are important, but in this Real Madrid, sporting issues take priority.
