Sir Alex Ferguson is a huge advocate of attacking football and the display of his club Manchester United both in England and in Europe attests that. It’s ironic indeed that the man who preaches the principle of attacking football has been attacked and that too in life outside football.

On Monday afternoon the veteran Manchester United manager was on his way to a function in London when he was allegedly attacked by a man at the Euston railway station. Sir Alex suffered minor injuries as a result of the attack and was saved from further trouble due to the quick arrival of the British Transport Police to the scene. The incident happened at around 4.30 pm at the North London station.

A 40-year old man has been charged with one count each of actual bodily harm, assault and a public order offence although the exact motive of the attack is yet to be known. The man is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, central London, on Wednesday.

A police spokesman said:

We can confirm that one of the victims was Sir Alex Ferguson and he received injuries to his leg.

Fergie himself is glad that he is not badly hurt and one can expect that this attack on the 66-year old Scot would have no bearing on Man United when they take on Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday. Defending Premiership champions United are yet to find their full rhythm this season. The Red Devils lie 8th in the table, 2 points off the pace after 5 rounds of matches.
