An alluring result by Celtic to beat the European Champions and their last 19 League matches at home having lost just once, what a formidable home record! Now they lounge second in Group D with three points that none had expected.

A chaotic game comprising a predominantly pulsating second half, as McManus put the hosts ahead via a deflected corner.

Conversely, Milan squared with a controversial penalty converted by Kaka, but Celtic snatched the decisive victory with a late goal as McDonald netted from a close range, that seemed an avenge of their last 16 defeats.

However, Celtic’s fine 2-1 victory over AC Milan was marred by a senseless fan that ran onto the pitch and appeared to strike Milan goalkeeper Dida.

UEFA, European football’s governing body, is certain to launch an investigation over the incident. All Celtic fans could now pay for what happened and could face sanctions ranging from a fine to deduction of points.

In 2005, Dida was hit by a flare thrown by Inter Milan fans during a Champions League quarter-final forcing the tie to be abandoned. Inter were subsequently thrown out of the competition with UEFA fining the club £132,000.

A cowardice act of a stupid has brought in disgrace to the competition especially the Celtic fans, renowned for their vast and vocal support. A great week for Scottish football has finally faded.
