We noticed poor performances of Asian nations in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup 2006. Not only this World cup, they have never produced high quality games at the international stage, although some exceptional cases are there. It is regardless to say the players of Asian continent are far behind than their African counterpart. What steps should be taken to remove the current state of misery of Asian football? I feel that the countries of Asia have not yet developed Club-culture like Europe and improved their domestic leagues. They are still far behind the international level that they aspire. They must work hard to close the gap with the big guns. In its recent technical committee, meeting AFC assessed players’ performances and concluded that Asian nations need to improve their domestic leagues so that they can produce better performance in the next world cup. AFC’s president Bin Hamman said All national associations and clubs should play their role to improve the overall standard of Asian football. Restructuring and improving the standard in our clubs and in our leagues is the only way for us to head into professionalism.
