Argentina crush Mexico to reach final

Argentina dispelled any doubts of them being the favourites for the Copa America 2007 when they convincingly beat Mexico 3-0 to setup a summit clash against arch rivals Brazil. Fans who had expected to see an attacking, free flowing match were disappointed as both teams played tactically and defensively at the start. The match was heading to goalless first half when Gabriel Heinze tapped in a cross from Juan Roman Riquelme to put Argentina ahead 1-0. Mexico looked toothless in the second half and Argentina took advantage of the unwary Mexican defense when Lionel Messi chipped in a beauty to score what could be the goal of the tournament.Mexico’s woes continued when Carlos Tevez was fouled in the Mexican penalty area and Riquelme duly converted the penalty to put Argentina in an unassailable position. Earlier Mexico’s Nery Castillo missed a couple of easy chances in the first as well as the second half, and it would have changed the complexion of the game, had they been converted. Mexico now play Uruguay in the 3rd/4th Place playoff in Caracas on the 14th of July whereas the final will take place on the 15th at the Maracaibo.
